Extended validation SSL certificates
Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificates offer both the strongest validation and the greatest visible re-assurances in the industry. As a Verisign Gold Partner, NetBenefit is able to provide Extended Validation certificates to our customers. The benefits and requirements for EV certificates are detailed below.
Benefits - the green address bar
In Microsoft® Internet Explorer 7 (IE7), released in early 2007, the address bar turns green if an EV certificate is in place for that site and displays the name of the Extended Validation certificate owner. If the site does not have Extended Validation the website address bar will remain white, giving a very visible indication of levels of security. All of the major financial institutions and e-commerce websites already have EV SSL’s in place on their websites and EV is expected to become an industry standard as consumers become familiar with the ‘green bar’ indicator. If your site has the “green bar” in IE 7 and your competitor’s site does not, you appear to be more trusted and more legitimate.

Requirements
To qualify for an EV Certificate the organisation requesting the certificate must be registered with the appropriate government agency in its country of jurisdiction (country of registration). The following registration requirements need to be confirmed through the relevant company registration database or a registration document will need to be provided:
- Organisation’s registration number
- Organisation’s date of registration / incorporation
- Organisation’s registered / agents address
- Organisation’s status
This Extended Validation process complies with the CA/Browser Forum Extended Validation Certificate Standard
